MDMA's Journey: 40 Years of Research and the Future of Psychedelic Therapy

In 2024 it will have been 40 years since the DEA first moved to place MDMA in Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act, asserting it held no therapeutic value, leading to the founding of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies in 1986 by Rick Doblin. As 2023 comes to end we are anticipating the submission of a New Drug Application to the FDA by MAPS for MDMA-assisted therapy in the treatment of PTSD. Join Fluence for the final installment of of our free webinar series in 2023 as we discuss MDMA’s 40-year path to this moment in time—and what the next 40 years might bring—with MAPS founder Rick Doblin, PhD, Fluence trainer Chantelle Thomas, PhD and Fluence Co-Founder Ingmar Gorman, PhD.

The conversation will explore the final results of MAPS clinical trial exploring MDMA-assisted therapy for the treatment of PTSD, the hurdles still to clear, and implications for aspiring therapists and the importance of good drug education more broadly.

What students have to say about this program...

  • I really appreciate Fluence. The trainings and coursework, the literature shared, the community, self-development and insightful explorations have strengthened me as a professional and given such a sense of competence in this evolving space.

    Amy Johnson

  • I've been more than thrilled about my experience with Fluence thus far. I am a ketamine-assisted psychotherapist and

continue to learn more information and modalities to incorporate into my practice, from both the instructors and

    fellow students.

    LAURA HUTCHINS,

    LCMHC, LCAS, KAP Consulting

  • My entire experience with Fluence has been exceptional. The instructors are giants in the psychedelic field, many are active in clinical research and you will see their names in scientific publications.

    Stephanie Barss,

    FNP, PMHNP, Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy

    Certificate Program Advisor

  • The trainers at Fluence are what continually confirm that I am in the right place. The reverence and honor with which they approach their work is so evident. I have felt a sense of safety

at Fluence that is not present in other organizations I have

trained with or researched, and it is the trainers who create that safety.

    Andrea Bigenho,

    LPC specialist in Psychedelic Integration
